Rachel Kaplan is a graduate of IPI’s Core Program in Object Relations Theory and Therapy as well as its Infant Observation Program. She is also a four-year graduate of the Advanced Psychanalytic Psychotherapy Program of the Washington Psychoanalytic Foundation. Ms. Kaplan is in the private practice of adult and couple therapy in Washington, DC and Takoma Park, MD. She also specializes in treating mothers and babies struggling with postpartum depression. In addition to her work at IPI Metro, Ms. Kaplan is on the Steering committee and is a core faculty member of the Observational Studies of Infants and Young Children at the Washington School of psychiatry.

Dr. Pallaro is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Maryland and California, as well as a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist in her native Italy. Dr. Pallaro is bilingual, and applies her experience in cross-cultural and acculturation issues in her Maryland private practice of individual, family and group therapy. Formerly director of a psychiatric residential and day treatment program in San Francisco and faculty member at John F. Kennedy University’s Transpersonal and Holistic Counseling Center in Oakland, Dr. Pallaro has an extensive background in mental health, counseling, partial hospitalization philosophy, and body-oriented psychotherapy. She is on the faculty of Art Therapy Italiana, in Bologna, Italy. Published in the U.S. and Italy, she has compiled edited two volumes on Authentic Movement.

In addition to her work at IPI Metro, Ms. Scharff is in the private practice of child and adult psychotherapy with individuals, couples, and families in Bethesda, Maryland. She is also founder and Director of The Center for Relationships in Transition, a private agency providing general psychotherapy as well as specialized clinical services for families experiencing separation, divorce, and custody/visitation disputes. Ms. Scharff is Secretary of the Executive Board of the Metro Washington Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and Chair of the Mentor Committee of the Greater Washington Society of Clinical Social Workers. She presents and teaches widely in the areas of Object Relations child and adult psychotherapy and high conflict divorce. Among her writings is the recently published book Therapy Demystified: An Insider’s Guide to Getting the Right Help (Without Going Broke).

Dr. Iasenza, a clinical psychologist, is Adjunct Professor of Counseling at John Jay College, City University of New York, and a faculty member at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. She maintains a private practice of psychotherapy and sex therapy in New York City. Dr. Iasenza has co-edited two books: Lesbians and Psychoanalysis: Revolutions in Theory and Practice (2000), and Lesbians, Feminism, and Psychoanalysis: The Second Wave (2004).

Mary Lindahl, Ph.D.
Mary Lindahl,Ph. D. is a psychologist and Chair of the Department of Forensic Psychology at Marymount University. She maintains a private practice of psychotherapy and supervision, with a specialty in child and adult trauma, child abuse, and forensic medicine. Dr. Lindahl has served as an expert witness in matters related to posttraumatic stress, child psychology, child trauma, and child abuse and neglect.
Barry McCarthy, Ph. D.
Dr. McCarthy is a professor of psychology at American University and practices individual, couple, and sex therapy at the Washington Psychological Center. He is co-author of 9 books, including Rekindling Desire (2003), Coping with Premature Ejaculation (2003), Getting It Right the First Time (2004), and Coping with Erectile Dysfunction (2004).

Dr. Miletski is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (Diplomate) and Supervisor in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland. She earned her Masters in Social Work from the Catholic University in Washington, DC, and her Doctorate Degree in Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco. Dr. Miletski has been training professionals in the field of human sexuality, and has lectured nationally and internationally. She is the author of several professional articles, book chapters, and two books: "Mother-Son Incest; The Unthinkable Broken Taboo" and "Understanding Bestiality and Zoophilia."

Michael Plaut, Ph. D.
Dr. Plaut is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He has served as course director for the school's required course in Intimate Human Behavior for the last 16 years. A licensed psychologist with a doctorate from the University of Rochester, he is certified as both a sex therapist and sex educator and maintains a practice through the Department of Psychiatry. He is a past president of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research and has served as editor of the Journal of Sex Education and Therapy. In 2004, he published Fast Facts: Sexual Dysfunction, co-authored with a gynecologist and a urologist.

Dr. Scharff is Co-Director of the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI). In addition to maintaining a private practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, he is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and at Georgetown University, a Teaching Analyst at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, a former President of The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), and on the editorial boards of several journals. Dr. Scharff is the author, editor, or co-editor of over 25 books.

Dr. Scharff is Co-Director of the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI) and Chair of its International Institute for Psychoanalytic Training. Additionally, she is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University and a Teaching Analyst at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Scharff is the author, co-author, and editor of many books, including Object Relations Family Therapy, Object Relations Couple Therapy, Object Relations Individual Therapy, and most recently, The Facelift Diaries, The Primer of Object Relations 2nd Edition, and The Legacy of Fairbairn and Sutherland (co-edited).
Michael Stadter, PHD
Michael Stadter is a clinical psychologist and a member of the faculty and Board of Directors of IPI. He is also Clinical Psychologist-in-Residence in the Department of Psychology at American University in Washington, DC and on the faculty of the Washington School of Psychiatry. Dr. Stadter maintains a private practice in Bethesda, MD that includes long-term and brief psychotherapy as well as clinical supervision and organizational consultation.
He is the author of a number of publications including his book, Object Relations Brief Therapy: The Relationship in Short-term Work (1996) published by Jason Aronson, NY. He is the co-editor (with David Scharff) of the forthcoming book, Dimensions of Psychotherapy/Dimensions of Experience published by Brunner-Routledge, London (expected September, 2005).
